How To Create and Install A Facebook Pixel

How To Create and Install A Facebook Pixel

A Facebook Pixel lets us track peoples activities after they have clicked on an ad and left Facebook. The pixel is a vital step in any Facebook campaign because it lets you retarget to previous visitors and optimize for conversions among other things.

It is the single most powerful marketing tool created in the last decade.

Lets Get Started

1. Go to your Facebook ads manager. https://business.facebook.com/adsmanager

2. Choose the correct account to log in to.

3. Hit the hamburger menu on the left then choose events manager.

4. Click Connect Data Sources on the left.

5. Choose Web.

6. Choose Facebook Pixel. Then Connect.

7. Continue on the next page (it just tells you what it does).

8. Name your pixel whatever you want.

9. Add your website URL. Push Continue.

10. Next it will ask you what website you will connect to (WordPress, Squarespace, etc). Choose the correct one and Confirm. Leave this page open and open a new tab so we have both Facebook AND a new tab open

11. In the new tab, login to your website an add the Facebook plugin. For WordPress, find plugins in the left column and Add New.

12. In the search bar, enter "Facebook for WordPress" and Install Now.

13. Wait a few moments and the Install Now should change to Activate. Push the button.

14. In the left menu, find Settings and choose Facebook.

15. Click Get Started.

16. You will see a series of confirmation screens. Make sure you are connecting to the correct account and push Confirm each time. Take extra care if you have multiple accounts.

17. Select the correct FB Pixel.

18. Give Facebook all required permissions.

19. Push Done. Then Confirm to give Facebook permission to access the token.

20. Back in Facebook. Enter your URL into the send test traffic.

21. Visit your website and use a FB Pixel Helper to check that the pixel is installed correctly. A Facebook Pixel helper is a browser add on you can install to Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge etc.

22. Back in Facebook, it should also say that your pixel is active. Next.

23. Add your URL again to set up Events. Next.

24. Push Test Events in Events Manager.

25. You have now installed your Facebook pixel.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now have a Facebook Pixel installed on your website. You can now track anyone that visits your website and send targeted adverts directly to them, and to people like them.
