How to Create a Lot of Instagram Posts at Once Using Canva

If you've read our other article about scheduling social media posts months ahead of time, you will know how much I despise using social media. However I do find making a series of similar posts quite satisfying.

It just takes a little bit of planning up front, a little bit of playing around with design choices, then a whole lot of satisfaction as you get into the flow of pumping out great posts at a rate of 1 or 2 every minute.

Before you Open Canva

Make a posting plan. For this example I’ll pretend that I am a celebrity chef trying to grow my channel and want to post 5 or 6 times a week. The best posts I do will undoubtedly be spur of the moment posts that I find interesting and I know my followers will too. But posting is a pain in the proverbial, so I like to have a big ol’ stack of posts ready (or scheduled) to go so I don’t feel like I have to post at any particular times.

So spend some time doing research about what kind of posts you want to make. They don’t all have to be amazingly innovative ideas. What kind of things would you be interested in? Your followers probably like the same kind of thing.

As an example for my celebrity chef...

Monday - Unusual Food Post.

Tuesday - Quote from a person I like.

Wednesday - Repost someone else’s post.

Thursday - Link to my newest video.

Friday - A picture of an amazing meal I ate this week (using a picture from anytime).

Saturday - Recipe Post.

Sunday - Nothing.

The next step is to make each day's worth of posts at the same time. I am going to make 3 months worth of Monday posts to begin.

MONDAY - Unusual Food Posts

Before you open Canva, find some unusual foods to post about. There should be 1000’s of articles online that you can pull from. Make a list or keep the browser open.

In Canva

1. Choose Instagram Post and choose any design. You can change this later easily so don’t spend too much time on this.

2. Look through the templates and choose something that might look good. Remember you are going to change the templates to match your brand, so ignore the colors and just focus on the design elements.

3. Change the colors of the design to match your own brand

4. Add the logo somewhere if you want

5. Change the font

6. Check your unusual foods list and add it to the design.

7. Either upload a photo or use the photos in Canva.

8. If the colors are clashing, add a black and white filter for instant class.

9. If it doesn't look great, choose a different design and start again. As a rule of thumb, the more you change the worse the design looks.

10. Looks good? Great. Duplicate it 11 times.

11. Now it is just a matter of switching out the text and the picture for each of the new posts.

12. Remember these are going out once a week, so it's ok that they all look similar. To switch it up though, just swap the colors around.

13. Monday's posts are now done for 12 weeks. Well, except for the writing and uploading part. Read this to see how to upload your posts months in advance.

Conclusion

The only part that really takes any time is the initial post design, and even that is more a matter of trial and error until something looks right. Get the design right at the start and you can use the same design for years.

Remember that often less is more. Don’t spend too much time adding design elements when the content of the post should do most of the talking.
